In the remote chasm, Ormiston Gorge, the Iconic A cappella in the Gorge brought to a fitting end the 10th Anniversary of the Desert Song Festival. A “cracker of a festival” celebrating 10 years of artistic brilliance and cultural diversity.
Described by ABC TV News as “a celebration of culture like no other”, this year’s festival showcased a line-up of world class artists presenting a series of brilliant performances across ‘10 glorious days of music’.
Thank you to the enthusiastic artists, arts workers volunteers and wonderful audiences. This festival was a tribute to all of you!
You have told us that you have drunk deep of the music and ‘spirit’ of DSF 2023… and were more than satisfied. Thank you!
We hope you took away the program and framed it as a souvenir, so your circle could hear you say, “I was there!”
We also hope you took away a t-shirt to prove it, and a tote bag to remind you of ‘10 days of musical joy’ every time you fill it with shopping, with bathers or with better things.
And we hope you took away the memories of the music, the languages, the lore, the Country and something of the knowledge and wisdom of 65,000 years of human occupation of these Central Lands. And, in this ‘Year of the Voice’ let us open our hearts and say YES to their voice.
When we launched DSF 2023 we said “Mparntwe – Alice Springs is in the grip of a deep sorrow! Join thousands of our fellow Australians and undertake ‘The Essential Australian Journey’ this September. Let us help move the dial towards healing and reconciliation and, together with locals, contribute something special to the positive story of ‘A town like Alice’.
Thank you to the interstate visitors who responded to our invitation. Thank you for coming to visit us, and on your return, tell your communities a different story- a story of what you experienced: a world class festival, brilliant performances, memorable choral workshops, a safe and friendly town and a vibrant artistic hub like no other.
We hope that DSF 2023 filled your hearts a with memories that will not just last a festival or two, but for generations to come.
